Joseph Lawrence (b. 1741) was a merchant captain from Flushing, now a neighborhood in modern-day Queens, N.Y. His brother Effingham Lawrence commanded the brigantine Audrey, built by Joseph's employer Samuel Townsend prior to the American Revolution. Another brother, John L.
